Highlights:
January 2022 - April 2023 (estimated), Contract 3, Seepage Cutoff Walls, $40.9M

Description:

The USACE Sacramento District selected the Maloney Odin Joint Venture (MOJV) to construct 2 miles of levee improvements along the Sacramento River East Levee (SREL) in Sacramento’s Big Pocket neighborhood.

The project was undertaken to address levee stability and under- and throughseepage concerns. The scope included constructing 2 miles of varying types of seepage cutoff walls, including open trench soil-bentonite (SB) and slagcement-cement-bentonite (SCCB) cutoff walls, and deep mix method (DMM) cutoff walls using a 3-axis auger rig. Approximately 650,000 vertical square feet (VSF) of SB/SCCB and 280,000 VSF of DMM cutoff wall were constructed to a maximum depth of 142 feet below ground surface.

Following cutoff wall construction, the levee was reconstructed using competent low-permeability soil. Supplemental scope items included relocation and removal of multiple levee encroachments within the work area; removal and replacement of the city-owned Sump Station 70; and removal, handling, import, and disposal of soils.
